Chloe Hwang, recipient of the Zonta Young Women in Public Affairs Scholarship

Chloe Hwang, recipient of the Zonta Young Women in Public Affairs Scholarship selected by Zonta Club of South Bay, was honored during our May meeting with a check and certificate in honor of her community and volunteer services, including teaching children to play the violin.  Attending Torrance South High School, she was chosen to attend camp at UC Santa Barbara run by TechTrek. They focused on women's empowerment and bringing awareness to the lack of women in STEM careers.  Serving as TechTrek's Social Media coordinator, one of her most recent projects was spotlighting the accomplishments of African-American women in STEM in honor of Black History Month. This formulated her views on the importance of educating the younger generation of girls about what they can achieve in science and technology. Chloe said, "Volunteering at TechTrek is where I learned most about using my voice and the importance of advocating against inequality."
